Tricare Reorganizing for Less Hassle Tricare officials hope to reduce hassles for beneficiaries next year by executing modified contracts and slashing Tricare regions from 12 to three. The contract changes are designed to eliminate excessive paperwork for patients and healthcare providers, as well as reduce delays in referrals for medical care. The modifications also are supposed to make price adjustments by contractors not subject to interpretation, said Dr. William Winkenwerder, assistantsecretary of defense for health affairs. The decrease in the number of regions will reduce re-enrollment requirements and the need to learn new procedures when transferring. As part of the reorganization, Tricare also will institute a single national pharmacy retail contract so that beneficiaries can buy drugs at stores anywhere in the country. |
